Why is My Netgear Router Offline?

Oftentimes, Netgear routers get stuck with certain technical issues. It is obvious too. Like every other technical device, the Netgear router too is prone to technical glitches. But despite this fact, it is possible that you can overcome these situations by doing some troubleshooting. This article is going to give you insight into how to get the issue at hand fixed easily. Netgear router offline means you are unable to get online. You can’t access any web page also. While helping you troubleshoot the issue, we are assuming that you have an already set up Netgear router which was working fine till now. In case you have not set up the router then access the Netgear router login page and set it up and then you can access the network. Let us now get to fix the problem.

How to Fix Netgear Router Offline Issue?

Power Cycle Network

If you are facing issues with the Netgear router connectivity, then consider power cycling the network once. Turn off the Netgear router and disconnect it from the power source. After waiting for some time, connect it back to the power source and turn the power supply on by toggling the power button to the On position. After the router is powered up, try accessing its network and see if it still is offline.

Check Your Internet Connection

The Netgear router gets its internet from the modem which is connected to it. Perhaps the modem is not powered on. Or maybe the router is placed out of the modem’s range. If you have connected them with a wired connection, then there is a possibility that the cable is damaged or not inserted properly into the devices. Here is the checklist that you need to consider checking now:

  • The Netgear router should be placed within the modem network range.
  • Do not place the devices very close to each other.
  • In case the devices are connected using an Ethernet cable, then take a look at the cable to see if it is damaged. Replacing the cable might help.
  • Insert the Ethernet cable properly into the respective ports on both devices.
  • Check with your ISP if there is an issue from his end. Give him some time to get it fixed.

Verify Power Supply

Another reason that can cause the Netgear router to be offline is poor or no power supply to it. Consider a scenario where the Netgear router is not receiving continuous power supply from the source. How can we expect the router to provide WiFi signals when it is not powered up correctly? Thus check the power socket to which the router is plugged in. If it is damaged then unplug the router from this socket and use another socket to plug the router. Moreover, take a look at the power adapter. It should not be damaged and should be plugged in properly. If your area suffers a lot of power outages, then using a UPS might help. Once you have fixed the power supply issue see if the issue has been resolved or not.

Relocate Router

Have you placed your Netgear router in some corner of the home, or behind a cupboard? Or maybe there are many other networking devices near the router. Perhaps some home appliances share their location with the Netgear router. All these are the factors that can affect the WiFi signal in the home. It is now time that you relocate your router. How to choose the best location for the router? See the points given below:

  • Choose a place which is open and not enclosed or congested like corners, attics, basements, etc. Place it in an open place in the home.
  • Place the Netgear router in the central location of the home such that the router can give out WiFi in all directions and the devices get the maximum network coverage.
  • Place it higher in the home. Choose a higher shelf or wall mount it if possible. The signals get radiated outwards and downwards. Placing it lower will result in signal wastage. Thus choose a higher location in the home for the router.
  • Place it away from other networking devices and home appliances to avoid network interference.

Wrap Up

This way you can fix the Netgear router appearing offline issue. If you still struggle with the same issue, then reset the router and configure it again using routerlogin.net admin password. Once done, update its firmware to the latest version by accessing the router admin panel.
